Officials from Europe including the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans targeted figures who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
